Beer for Chicks
I just discovered a website for ladies who love to drink beer! It is called Beer for Chicks. I discovered this website through an article in the Tulsa World. It is a Facebook style website dedicated to ladies who love to drink beer.
What I like about the site is that it talks about ALL kinds of beer, not just Michelob Ultra and Bud Lite. Christina Perozzi, a beer sommelier, started the website. There are several reviews of commercial beers and the site has a lot of information about beers. It is great to see so many women starting to open their eyes to this very enjoyable drink.
The Beer for Chicks inspired a local Tulsa Beer for Chicks that meets monthly at Tulsa’s favorite beer pub, McNellie’s Public House. We met last night at McNellie’s Sidebar. This month’s beer style was fruit lambic.
Lambics are truly unique beers. They originated in the Pajottenlandregion of Belgium, southwest of Brussels. Lambic beers are spontaneously fermented, meaning they are not dosed with controlled batches of yeast, but instead are exposed to the air where they are fermented with wild yeasts and bacteria that are native to the Senne valley, where Brussels is located. This process gives the beer a dry, vinous, cidery and sour aftertaste
Straight lambics are quite sour and are a bit of an acquired taste. However, fruit lambics are different. The addition of fruit creates a very unique sweet/sour beer where the fruit flavor dominates. If you have never tried a fruit lambic, you will be surprised because it doesn’t taste like what is traditional thought of as a “beer flavor”. This is a beer that ladies who say they don’t like beer, LOVE fruit lambics. Lindmans Brewery is the most famous brewery known for their fruit lambics. The following Lindmans fruit lambics are imported into the United States: Pomme, Framboise, Cassis, Kriek and Pêche.
