Random thoughts from the world's cutest beer couple

A new beer in Oklahoma that is far from new.

Stegmaier BreweryI would like to recommend a new beer that is in Oklahoma that is far from a new brewery.  Lionshead Brewery was built in 1905 and the Stegmaier brand was purchased in 1974 and now their beers are available here in Oklahoma.

I first tried their beers at a “Beer for Chicks” meeting and had never heard of the brewery.  I didn’t know what to expect.  The first beer that we tried was the Stegmaier Amber Lager.  It is a classic example of an American Amber lager.  The beer was crystal clear with a nice balance of hops and malt complexity that makes for a very drinkable beer. Their Gold Lager is a crisp clean American Pilsner that, again, was very drinkable.

But by far the beer that blew me away was the Stegmaier Porter.  This beer is a classic robust porter.  The strong malt flavor balanced with chocolate, crystal and black malt is a pleasure to drink. I honestly think this is one of the best Porters I’ve had in a long time.  In fact, I went to Midtown and bought a six-pack right away.

I would like everyone to give these beers a try.  If we don’t try and buy, it won’t stay in Oklahoma.

I’m confused by your headline. Did you mean to say a new brewery in Oklahoma…or did you mean the products of an old Pennsylvania brewery newly available in Oklahoma? I’m finding that both Lions Head and Stegmaier are brewed in steel country.

  2. Sorry, I meant that we have a new beer available in Oklahoma that is brewed by a brewery in Pennsylvania.
